Spectrum Interactive upgrades to Fleet Director

Spectrum Interactive install and maintain the internet access desks and WiFi hotspots now found in many of the UK's busiest Airports and leading hotel chains including Travelodge, Premier Inn and Holiday Inn Express. They are also expanding the service into holiday parks, military camps and hospitals all over the country.

With increasing demand for public access internet sites, Spectrum Interactive has to ensure the company's 30 strong fleet of installation and maintenance vehicles is running at optimum levels, all the time. In order to achieve this and to have the business critical ability to see all vehicles in real-time, at any location, Spectrum Interactive has recently fitted their entire fleet of Citroen Belingo and Despatch vans with Trafficmaster's Fleet Director system.

Nigel Styne, Operations Director at Spectrum Interactive was instrumental in the decision to upgrade to a real-time system and is already seeing the benefits. "Our previous fleet management tools only provided us with retrospective data on vehicle movements at the end of the day, so this did not enable us to respond quickly to emergency call outs or implement ongoing work plan changes with our engineers. With increasing demand for our services and a need to ensure we can get the nearest engineer to sites as fast as possible, we knew we had to improve our fleet management operation.

"We chose Trafficmaster's Fleet Director solution because of the depth of service the system offers. Not only could we get the real-time data we wanted but also the Smartnav satellite navigation and traffic avoidance system as well as the Trackstar stolen vehicle system. It gives us a complete one-stop solution for all our fleet management needs - and we have come to rely on it."

Since installing Fleet Director and Smartnav, Spectrum Interactive has seen a general increase in productivity in terms of the numbers of jobs being handled by engineers. The live traffic avoidance system means drivers are able to meet expected job arrival times as they can avoid any traffic problems en route, so directly helping to improve customer service as well.

Fleet Director has enabled Spectrum Interactive to improve all aspects of their fleet management and tracking. The location of all vehicles can be identified on screen at any given time, so deployment decisions can be made in "real-time". This ensures the closest vehicle to a new or emergency job can be despatched, improving response times and productivity.
"We've also found Fleet Director provides really good management reports in either summary or detailed format, which help us plan vehicle and job allocation. The system also tracks private and business mileage which again has helped us improve individual driver productivity and performance."

Spectrum Interactive's drivers are also pleased with the upgrade to Fleet Director, particularly the Smartnav navigation system "Our engineers really like system as it helps them work more efficiently and they've found the Smartnav routing very user-friendly as well, "said Nigel Styne.
